Why the name Kaizen

A word I chose as a reminder, for myself and for everyone else too.

August 26, 2026General

Kaizen is a Japanese word. 改善. Continuous improvement. Make a small improvement every day and let it compound.

And honestly, part of why I picked it is that my name is in it. Kai. Coincidence, right? So yeah, it hit me a little harder than it probably should have.

Here's a little bit of backstory

I lost accounts in my early prop firm days. Reading charts was never the issue. My technicals were fine, more than fine actually, and I have the backtesting data to prove it.

What killed those accounts was me. I knew my rules and broke them anyway. Oversized after a loss. Revenge trading was no stranger to me either. Kept clicking when the plan said stop. Why? I couldn't stand being red, and I couldn't stand being wrong.

In the moment, every one of those mistakes felt different. In the journal, they all looked the same. The skill was there. The consistency wasn't. I could do the right thing three days in a row, then somewhere in between there was always a f*ck up.

I guess that's the whole idea. Trading pays you for your average day, done repeatedly, not your biggest day.

Why am I calling it a floor?

We all know the term "trading floor". Where the traders are. Where the work happens.

Looking at it a little deeper... you show up, you drill the same boring movements again and again, and nobody claps for you. It's repetitive on purpose, and not supposed to be exciting. That's the kind of room I wanted to build.

I put in the work on my floor. The Kaizen Floor.

The seal

The mark on this site is 改, the first character of kaizen. Next to it you'll see an ensō here and there, the circle drawn in a single brushstroke. You don't get to correct an ensō. You draw it, you look at it, and you draw a better one tomorrow.

That's what I'm going for, out in public where everyone can see. Mastery would be nice, but it isn't really the point. I just want to be better than yesterday, on repeat. And maybe get a few other people doing the same.

Because we all can.
